She watched as he walked around her and knew that he would soon take what was most precious to her. But out of everything she could have thought of, she thought of her mother holding her. Somehow, that thought calmed her. She would get through this, she would survive and make her mother proud.
I’m actually pretty proud of this. This is probably my favorite part in the entire series. Lin is Toph’s legacy, and in a time where most would turn away, she ran straight into danger, knowing fully well that she would probably not return as the same person as before. She did so anyway, to save the family of her ex-boyfriend, to save the last airbenders. And in the time when Amon is approaching her, I’m sure the thought of her mother was the thing that kept her so strong.
